i've been reading one of my favorite authors..edward hays. he reminded me that most of us who observe the lenten season, we'll begin on march 1st, ash wednesday. however, if you grew up eastern orthodox, you'd start tomorrow...monday, feb.27th.
traditionally, the first day of lent, monday, was a day to clean the house of all the fat and meat in preparation of the fast for the next 40 days.
the concept is starting with a clean slate, a cleansed kitchen, beginning anew.
i like the concept of starting with a clean slate and blank calendar, and thinking about beginning an adventure with jesus during lent.
what adventure do you want to go on with jesus this lenten season?
when easter rolls around on april 16th, where do you want to be with him?
maybe you need a clean monday like i do! a monday to look ahead and map out the adventure for lent this year. this week we can choose, we can plan, we can dream of all the amazing things jesus can show us this lent...all the great things we can learn and experience and notice between now and easter.
and please don't think this has to be one more thing on the multi-layered list...why not get rid of the list! or see this as an opportunity to do less rather than more!
let's see this lenten season as an adventure and be expectant! and let's anticipate the surprises the holy spirit has for each of us! now that's something to get excited about!
