when we drive south to visit my parents in nashville, we have a traditon of stopping in elizabethtown, KY. it's about halfway between cincinnati and nashville and there's a cracker barrel restaurant at the e-town exit that has been there for years.
if we're not in a rush, we have lunch or dinner there and wander around the country store. cracker barrel is known for it's southern cooking...vegetable plates, corn bread and biscuits, breakfast anytime, sweet tea, and pie. if we happen to be in a hurry...we just use the restrooms there and get food in the drive thru at the near by wendys.
sadly, i haven't ever driven into town to actually see elizabethtown. i just know the exit off the freeway. but after watching the film "elizabethtown" i must drive farther down the road and actually find this southern belle.
i really liked the movie "elizabethtown". the charm of a southern family with all its quirks and tradtions and THE FOOD all ring true. the fact that they don't understand why anyone would move away and how you will always be "from there" even if you haven't lived there in ages. i laughed more than anyone else in the theater because most of the southern characters portrayed in the film, i have met somewhere or they are a part of my own extended family. the aunt, played by real life chef paula deen
is a combination of my aunt and my grandmother and a little of my mom thrown in too. i grew up on fried corn cakes and country ham and large family gatherings on sunday afternoons. i loved how drew had to learn a new language to actually enter the south...just how one pronounces "louisville" shows where you are from. (orlando bloom gives up his british accent for his role as drew and kirsten dunce goes southern but not too far)
the soundtrack is amazing. it'll be my next purchase off i tunes.
also loved the wedding party and the memorial (especially susan sarandon). but i loved the road trip at the end the best. made me consider my failures and ponder success, and also made me ponder my relationship with my dad. it was our friday night date film ...good choice all around... but if you're from the south, you'll really like it!Download elizabethtown_official_movie_site_directed_by_cameron_crowe.html
We also enjoyed it! Our recent trip to Houston made miss southern sensibilities.
I love the new look of your blog!

Lilly, I so identify with that! I call Elizabethtown one of my home towns and loved the movie!
