i re-read this portion a couple of years ago and was struck with a new thought. i think jesus challenged thomas, not because he was doubting, but because he wanted to be sure. i think jesus honored the doubting part of his faith - but shook up the part that said 'i must know' - i'm wondering if the church has gotten this part wrong for (ever?) as long as i can see. living in the question is much more about faith than surity will ever be.

hey heidi...great stuff. i too believe that jesus understands and even honors our doubts...i think the church has been afraid of doubt and questions, while jesus loves us when we ask, and when we seek. he wants us to be open, not closed.
and like you said "faith is about believing in what we don't see"
