june 3rd is st.kevin's day in ireland...
didn't know there was a st.kevin?
well he was a irish/celtic monk who founded a monastery at glendalough outside dublin. he is famous for his patience and his love for animals, his love of scripture and his prayer life. one story says that while he was praying with his hands raised, a bird built a nest and laid and egg in his hands, and kevin stayed still until the egg hatched!
now that's patience!
there is also a tradition of celebrating st.kevin's day with fun and parties. a day of joyful exuberance and worship.
check out more info on st.kevin here.
rob says that all dogs should be named kevin...he shared this after our day and half of silence at wellspring/church of the savior back in february. thus we had a kevin icon on our altar during our closing worship (everyone brought symbols/objects of importance from our retreat as a part of our worship service)
so happy st. kevin's day...celebrate life with someone you love! thank jesus for the gifts of sunshine, family, friends, your favorite dog, and remember st. kevin who served jesus for 120 years back in the 500's AD.
PS...don't forget to wear red to church tomorrow...it's pentecost sunday! and even if your church doesn't follow the church year, if you wear red you can remember the coming of the holy spirit in the upper room (acts 2) and be filled again yourself!
