we are on the road this 4th of july...rob is off at "band camp" ...his first dad vacation ever. and an early birtday gift.
band camp just happens to be learning to playing harmonica in the berkshires.
hudson and brittany, 7th grade student of mine, and i are off to camp ourselves. we are heading to youthfront south in kansas. we are actually making a pilgrimage to kansas city to visit some of my favorite folks, laci scott, tim keel and mike king who heads up youthfront ministries and who'll be the speaker for this week of camp.
i have wanted to check out youthfront south for a while now due to its combination of regular camping fun like paintball, pools, and atv riding with experiential prayer and worship!
it is a pilgrim place with prayer stations around the 600 acre campus and time to pray the hours with students from 7-12 grade.
thanks to mike, i'll get to hang out at camp, have time to write and experience camp for myself while brittany and hudson get to be campers.
on sunday we'll head to jacobs well church and see tim, mimi, and laci. and hopefully have time to check in with the 24/7 boiler room in kansas city as well.
mac and randy are holding down the fort and making sure that fred is behaving himself while we're gone.
as we travel today, we'll be praying for our nation and it's leadership.
the past few years, i have had a hard time loving our country and the direction she has taken.
i honestly have not been proud to be from america ....really for the first time in my life.
today i am praying for a new vision, a new hope in america
today i pray that america :
will bless others who aren't like us
will share our wealth
will set an example of love, generosity, compassion and justice
will not be the big fat bully who only cares about him/herself.
let's all live today what we say we believe
and my prayer for us is
we will do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our god
and on this birthday of the united states, that we will remember that god is a global god and he blesses all the world
not just america.
in the name of jesus, amen.
lilly, thanks for a great prayer for our country - God bless us all! and yes, i can still love my country and feel patriotic, but, my allegiance to God and my concern for what God expects needs to take priority - hope y'all are having a great summer vacation! we're with family in western maryland: beautiful lake, mountains and good food :>)
