rob and i had a great time today recording our second month of podcasts for wiredparish.com
if you haven't heard about wiredparish, it's a new christian podcasting network featuring hosts like len sweet, brian mclaren, jamie smith, ivy beckwith and the lewins : )
our show is called "everyday spirituality" and our monthly focus for sept. is "how to live out sabbath in everyday life"
our monthly focus for october is living life as a faith adventurer...seeing life as pilgrimage and ourselves as pilgrims not just tourists.
to wet your appetite...
here are a few thoughts as you start this new season of the year:
Fall is a great time to start new things.
A new season
A new beginning
Folks are starting school again
Work vamps up again after summer vacations
The seasons change in most places so that the rhythm of the year allows for
Change in us too.
So what new adventure does God have for you this fall?
What is he calling you into?
Are you viewing your life as an adventure or as drudgery…?
Are you moaning going back to school or moaning going into work and wondering what’s next and why in the heck you’re there?
What if you put on new glasses and see your school, your job, your neighborhood as an opportunity for adventure?
What if you see your school, your work place, you neighborhood, your city as a mission field rather than just another dull place you have to be?
How would it feel to get up every morning expecting God to be at work, expecting God to be active on something very exciting and He just happens to be using your hands and your feet, your life to
“get ‘er done”!?
I’ll have to admit that I take all of this for granted.
I love adventure!
I love journeys, exploring new places and meeting new people.
but i know for some adventures are scary, too much work, or much to dangerous to be tried.
And I guess I’ve been thinking about my life with Jesus as an adventure, a pilgrimage for a long time too.
Each day is an opportunity to “come and follow”
Each day is an opportunity to be Jesus to the people God brings my way.
Each day is an opportunity to love others as I love myself.
So here’s an invitation for fall…
Rather than seeing it is the season “after the fun of summer”
Let’s see it as the beginning of an adventure with Jesus…
and let's actually ask the questions
Where is Jesus taking us this fall?
Where does He want each of us to go?
How is He calling you and me out of our comfort zone into action?
take some time as the days cool off and the leaves begin to change to
consider the adventures Jesus has planned for you this season.
put up your sail and don't be afraid to leave the harbor.
Every day for me is an adventure!Let's hope you don't have to totally uproot your life to find yours! (My latest blog was about my adventure in finding the Black Pearl!)
